Christine Benkert was born in rural Wisconsin in 1950.  She attended University of Wisconsin at Lacrosse, then transferred to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where she studied with Arnold Gassan, Dan Williams and A J Meek. In 1973 she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Photography with a minor in Art History.

Soon after, she went to Minneapolis, MN. She taught photography at Metropolitan State University for ten years and operated her own studio specializing in advertising and studio still life.  After over two decades of a distinguished commercial career which included a Women in Design International award and a Communication Arts Photography Annual award, her desire was to return to her original passion as artist/photographer.

Christine moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2000 to immerse herself in the arts and become part of the digital age of photography. She was involved in multiple art organizations, studied media arts, and exhibited her work. In 2010 she and her partner moved to California where she devotes herself fully to the creation of her artwork. She currently lives in Danville, California and maintains a home and studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
